TTG – Subset Class: Shooting Sessions

TTG – Subset Class: Shooting Sessions

It’s not microwave basketball. “Being good takes time”. – Coach R

Coach Robinson is offering shooting sessions as a subset program of the larger Teach The Game (TTG) program.

Helping players become better shooters requires both mental and physical discipline, correct fundamentals and a proper number of repetitions.

Those who play in our Winston-Salem Stealers program get 10-15 minutes of shooting work in per practice while those in the larger TTG program typically have 25-30 minutes of shooting repetition practice depending on the session theme.

During individual skills, players get an hour of different skills such as footwork, ball-handling, and passing in addition to shooting.

Being able to shoot the ball consistently and effectively is something every player wants to master and, like everything else, to be good, it takes time.

During these subset sessions, Coach Robinson will focus on the following (listed in no particular order):

  • The importance of time.
  • The importance of space.
  • Proper feet placement to create the correct stance.
  • Ball placement.
  • Shot preparation (being shooter ready).
  • Shooting off the dribble.
  • Shooting off the catch only.
  • The importance of balance.
  • Staying squared up (not leaning or twisting when shooting).
  • Mental skills such moving onto the next shot, patience, positive thoughts.
  • The triangle points: shoulders with the ball.
  • Eyes / target.
  • Follow through.
  • Working on shots from all spots, including free throws.

There will be much more added throughout each session and Coach Robinson will provide written feedback for each player following each session that hopefully they can take home with them as use as a guide until their next shooting workout.

There will be five days offered per month.

Participants can register per session or per month or, fi they would like, per year.

Twenty (20) participants per session is the max.    Grades 3rd-12th can attend.  Coach Robinson will try to keep the sessions age / grade / skill level appropriate.
