USA Basketball Youth Development Program

USA Basketball’s 2015 Pilot Program Information

On September 11, 2014, The Winston-Salem Stealers were notified that they would be one of twelve club programs, boys or girls, nationally to be a pilot program for USA Basketball’s Youth Development Initiative for 2015!
Coach Robinson has been fortunate to be a part of USA Basketball since 2005 in various positions, winning two gold medals (2013 and 2014) and a silver medal (2007) in the process.USA Basketball has a new mission to improve the game by teach their curriculum to younger age / grade players instead of beginning at the U16 grade group (Click HERE).The Winston-Salem Stealers are proud and honored to be entrusted to be one of a select few to try and help USA Basketball reach that goal.USA Basketball has a long and storied tradition (Click HERE), and members of the Stealers have had a small part over the years in this tradition (Click HERE).  We now hope to take on a larger role in the grassroots efforts of USA Basketball in the hopes of developing good ambassadors of the programs and the game.On this page you’ll find updates on each skill development session, seminar, camp, league, or identification trial that will take place in our program from November 2014 – December 2015.  All grades will eventually be allowed to participate in the program, with the 5th-8th grade participants allowed to register first and the high school grade groups to follow in late September / early October. The USA Basketball Youth Development Initiative will launch nationally in 2016.

Only program participants can participate in our pilot program.Currently, thirty 5th-8th grade participants are allowed in the program.

Parent Quote:

From 2/21/15:

Parent Terri Hoyle shares the following via email:

In one of the games yesterday,   Maddie passed Abby the ball and she did some quick touch pass to Hannah.
I asked her last night if she meant to do that or if she just wasn’t able to catch the ball before she passed it.
She said “Oh no I meant to do it. We worked on that in USA (practice) one day.”
Somewhere along the way a coach taught her that the key to becoming a better basketball player was to listen and transfer.
She has apparently bought in to that teaching.
Thanks. 🙂
